The Bard Chardonnay Pinot Noir Brut Cuvee
The BARD range celebrates the work of Australia’s best known lyric poet John Shaw Neilson who was raised in the cottage on the Hollick Neilson’s Block vineyard. Revered by his peers in the world of literature, Neilson was born in Penola in 1872, and it is thought that much of the imagery in his poems was conjured up during his childhood experiences in the swampy bushland around Coonawarra.
The long, cool growing seasons that prevail in Coonawarra and the Terra Rossa over limestone soils combine to provide ideal conditions for growing grapes for sparkling whites. Hollick have been making sparkling white wines since 1988. The proportion of Chardonnay to Pinot Noir varies from vintage to vintage depending on the characters present in the grapes in the vineyard. Picked very early in the season to ensure delicate fruit flavours and high levels of acidity. With subtle flavours of crisp green apples, strawberries and nougat, this sparkling white can be cellared for up to five years.
