Following on from The Retrospective Tasting in the Hollick Wines barrel shed, head upstairs to start the Coonawarra Cabernet Celebration weekend with a delicious six course TAPAS menu created by Chef Tash and the Upstairs at Hollick Team. Five Star Winery Rating From Halliday

Over 8,000 wines were tasted & now the results are finally in! The long-awaited 2016 edition of James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion has just been released.

Hollick are thrilled to have once again received a five star winery rating from Mr Halliday! On an individual note, our current-release 2013 Shiraz scored an impressive 95 points, whilst upcoming releases of The Nectar, Ravenswood & Chardonnay also received outstanding reviews. 2013 Shiraz - 95 points  (Current release)

"Made from the estate Wrattonbully vineyard, matured for 12 months in French and American oak. Deep crimson-purple, this is full to the rafters with juicy black fruits, licorice and bitter chocolate, the tannins obvious, but fleshy. Altogether impressive."

2013 Bond Road Chardonnay - 93 points  (Upcoming release)

"The wine has good balance, length and mouthfeel, with clear-cut stone fruit flavours, the oak subtle and well integrated."

 

2014 The Nectar - 94 points (Upcoming release)

"Off to the left, of course, but this botrytised riesling is always good; the Hollick team have got the vineyard and winery in sync, for there are many things that could go wrong with it - but haven't; the combination of lime, cumquat and honeyed sweetness balance by acidity is very good indeed."

 

2012 Ravenswood Cabernet Sauvignon - 95 points  (Upcoming release)

"Estate-grown and selected; matured in new oak, predominantly French, for 18 months. The colour is slightly turbid, although the hue is good; the bouquet, in particular, transmits the oak, the palate fighting back thanks to its considerable length and balance, cassis insisting that it's the most important feature of the wine."

Who Wants To Be A Magnumaire!

img 2530Hollick Wines recently had the pleasure of entertaining some of Australia's top Sommeliers for an afternoon!

The group were on tour in Coonawarra as part of a Wine Australia national initiative known as the 'Sommelier Immersion Program'. Hollick Winemaker Joe Cory decided to put the group to the test in a game of 'Who wants to be a Magnumaire'. Contestants were challenged to a series  of wine-related tasks & quizzed on the Coonawarra region. The winner took home three superb Coonawarra magnums.

We'd like to welcome our fantastic new Chef Natasha Bueti to the Upstairs Team. Tash joined us only a few weeks ago, and has already put together a superb new menu with something to tempt every taste bud.

If you're after a light meal, we suggest the gorgeous mushroom and parmesan twice baked soufflé. And for something a little different, try the coffee-rubbed eye fillet with smashed potato, wilted spinach & cabernet jus. For the dessert lovers, you can't go past the chewy caramel popcorn, smashed chocolate brownie, and macadamia nut ice cream!
